College life : Why it rocks. Why it sucks, and what you can make out of it.

Now that I have been a college student for nearly 3 years now I have noticed that the college life can be a must needed experience that every person should at least try and achieve. Going to college will show you what type of person you were, what type of person you are, and what type of person you can be. College can have a serious lifetime impact on your views on the world, the people who inhabit it and what you think you can do to make it better.

I graduated high school in 2009 with the hopes of going to a 2 year school, transferring to a school in a foreign state, graduating with my Masters in Business, and starting a family 2 years later. I am almost 3 years down the road and unfortunately none of those things have happened, or even close to happening. Before I go into detail about my college experience so far I would like to give some pointers on how to be a successful college student in the United States. I have never been to a foreign country, let alone off the east coast of the United States, but I believe the college experience is the same no matter where you go.

First of all, your college career is going to be whatever you put into it. If your lazy, and think your going to ease your way through and barely try to make it, then your college career is going to be the exact opposite of that. Unlike high school, the professors in any college don't care. They don't care if you do your homework, pass your tests, or study, because they are getting paid regardless. I'm not saying college professors are mean and don't care completely, but they care as much about your degree just as much as you do. If you show a professor that you are serious about school, then they will show you that they are serious about teaching you.

Also, the college life comes with a lot of distractions, which can become disadvantages to many, but advantages to some. Distractions include partying, drinking, work, family and friends. Everybody watches TV, we have all seen the movies of college students and how they are perceived to be. Let me warn you now, the way we are advertised through social media is exactly correct no matter how hard we try to deny it. Lets face it, studying, doing homework, and going to class everyday is boring. If you enjoy going to class for 6 hours a day, doing homework for 4 hours, studying for 4, and sleeping the rest is fun, then this section is not for you. What makes college difficult for most people is how boring it is, but it seems there is no way to spice it up but besides getting away from it. We as college students live for the parties, the clubs, and the memories. We don't really care how badly we did on that test we took on Friday until we receive the grade Monday. You better believe that Friday night, Saturday and Sunday we were partying it up, enjoying ourselves and letting all of our frustrations out on the dance floor so we could get ready to get back to it Monday morning. Some of us are unlucky and have to work on weekends to keep ourselves in college. What about those people, the ones who are going to school and working during the weekends part-time, and then working full time hours on the weekend? How do those people (including myself) find time to enjoy themselves?

The college life is also what you make out of it. If you are always thinking about the possibilities of becoming a college graduate then you will never make it past your freshman year. I am also guilty of this, we are too busy thinking about what we are going to do when we finish school then, just finishing school. Turn your dreams into realities, and stop imagining what you can accomplish, and go out and accomplish it. I wish I could get into more detail about the college life but I have to get ready to go to class myself. The world is becoming a place where if you don't have a college education, the world will not take you seriously. Now since everybody seemingly has one, it has as become harder for the students trying to get one, and use it when they graduate. But don't think about what your going to do when you graduate, go to class, do your homework, party, PARTY SOME MORE, and graduate. I don't know when I'm going to graduate, but I'll see you when I get there.
